(Baonghean.vn) -After more than 2 months of establishing a special project to investigate 138X, Tan Ky District Police successfully dismantled a sophisticated, reckless, and large-scale inter-provincial motorbike theft and consumption ring from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh.

At the end of 2012 and January 2013, motorbike thefts occurred continuously in Tan Ky district. Taking advantage of the vehicle owners' negligence in managing their assets, thieves broke into crowded areas such as weddings, along roads and at agencies and enterprises to steal expensive motorbikes such as Exciter, Air Blade, Sirius, Jupiter... In the face of the recklessness and sophistication of this type of crime, under the direction of the Tan Ky District Police, the 138X Task Force was established to fight and eradicate the group of subjects causing motorbike thefts.

Through screening and verification to clarify the number of subjects involved in the theft, after nearly 2 months of working with high determination, the Task Force found two groups of subjects with many suspicious signs. The plan to monitor all movements of the subjects was implemented immediately after that.

At around 7:30 p.m. on December 22, 2012, Le Van Dinh (born in 1992) and Ha Van Thinh (born in 1993), both residing in Hung Cuong 1 hamlet, Ky Son commune, Tan Ky district, prepared a lock-breaking clamp and together entered a wedding in Nghia Phuc commune to steal a motorbike. On the way, the two subjects saw many motorbikes parked in front of a restaurant in Tan Thanh hamlet, Tan An commune without anyone watching. Discovering the motorbikes left exposed, Dinh started the engine and waited, Thinh pretended to hold a phone in one hand to his ear, and with the other hand held a lock-breaking clamp and approached the target, the "brand new" Sirius motorbike of Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, a teacher at Tan Ky 3 High School.

In just a split second, the car was broken into and “disappeared”. However, the two subjects’ actions did not escape the police. While Thinh and Dinh were on the road, they were secretly chased by a task force of Tan Ky District Police. The two subjects abandoned the car and escaped, while Ha Van Thinh fled the area. In no hurry to “stir up the alarm”, the police force proceeded to collect evidence. On December 24, based on the evidence, the Task Force issued an emergency arrest warrant for Ha Van Thinh while he was hiding at his uncle’s house in Nam Cuong Commune. At the same time, Le Van Dinh was also arrested at his own home.

At the police station, through questioning, Le Van Dinh and Ha Van Thinh confessed to having successfully carried out 6 cases. The police also confiscated 3 motorbikes.

The second group of subjects that the investigators targeted was a gang specializing in stealing motorbikes at agencies and enterprises. The target of this gang was expensive motorbikes. From here, the detectives set up a large-scale, tightly organized, sophisticated and reckless inter-provincial motorbike theft and consumption ring from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh. The leader of this gang was Dang Van Tien (born in 1982), residing in Nghia Phuc commune, Tan Ky. The emergency arrest warrant for Dang Van Tien was issued right after Tien and his accomplices had just committed the theft of an Airblade motorbike belonging to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Director of the Agricultural Bank of Tan Ky district. In this theft, Tien and his accomplices had time to learn and carefully observe the schedule of activities as well as the routes of the bank. Knowing that the agency had security guards but the garage was located behind, where the guards were rarely present, Tien broke in and brazenly took the motorbike away without being detected.

During the investigation, Tien confessed that he and his accomplices had successfully carried out over 10 motorbike thefts. When they stole motorbikes in Nghe An, they brought them to Ha Tinh for sale, then stole them in Ha Tinh and transferred them to Thanh Hoa for sale, then stole them in Thanh Hoa and brought them back to Nghe An to sell to people in mountainous districts to avoid police investigation. Tien had a previous conviction for theft, and after being released from prison in 2011, he had connected with other people in scattered areas outside the province, causing great difficulty for the police in investigating and handling the case.

Currently, the police force has recovered 6 motorbikes and is continuing to arrest the remaining subjects in this large-scale motorbike theft and consumption ring to help stabilize the situation so that people can enjoy the New Year with peace of mind.
