Recalling nearly 160,000 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vehicles
After a number of transmission belt and handbrake errors, the Japanese car company had to recall nearly 160,000 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vehicles due to windshield wiper link errors.
It's unclear how many Mitsubishi vehicles are sold each year in the US, but it's likely that the company recalls more than that.
In early February, the Japanese automaker had to recall 140,000 Lancer, Outlander and Outlander Sport vehicles due to a faulty drive belt.
Then, another 170,000 Outlanders and Outlander Sports had to be recalled for handbrake-related problems (along with 56,000 Lacers for sunroof problems).
Now, the "unlucky" car company has had to announce a recall of nearly 160,000 cars in the US - all Outlander Sport models from 2011 - 2016. The defect of these cars is due to water leakage between the hood and windshield, which causes the wiper connecting rod to corrode and eventually separate.
Because this can reduce the driver's visibility and cause unfortunate accidents, Mitsubishi is forced to recall the faulty cars and replace the wiper linkages, and this recall will start from April. However, the car company did not mention the issue of repairing the parts that cause water leakage.
The exact number of recalled vehicles, 158,651, is larger than the number of vehicles Mitsubishi sold in the US last year, which was just 103,686. The Outlander Sport remains one of the company's best-selling models; about 33,160 of them are more than a third of the vehicles Mitsubishi sold in the US.
