North Korea appoints new General Political Bureau chief
This appointment by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was made at a construction site in Wonsan, a coastal city in eastern North Korea.
According to a VNA correspondent in Seoul, on May 25, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appointed General Kim Su-gil - a member of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) - as Director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army.
The General Political Bureau is a powerful body responsible for personnel and control of the North Korean military leadership.
The agency was previously headed by Kim Jong-gak.
Before being appointed to the position of Director General of the General Political Bureau, Mr. Kim Su-gil had held the position of Chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee since April 2014./.
