North Korea warns South Korea over US missile deployment
(Baonghean.vn) - On August 14, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) warned South Korea not to let the US deploy mid-range missiles to the country, saying that this was a reckless action that would escalate tensions in the region.

Previously, the US officially withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and announced that it would begin testing new missiles and deploying them globally.
Shortly after withdrawing from the INF, US Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced that Washington would consult with its allies about deploying missiles in Asia. South Korea is expected to be one of the leading candidates for the deployment of this new missile.
In a commentary posted on the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the deployment of US missiles was mentioned, saying that it would be a “path to ruin” and could turn South Korea into a “shield”.
“This is a reckless act that increases regional tensions and may even trigger a new Cold War and arms race in the Far East if it continues to deploy offensive weapons in South Korea,” KCNA said in a commentary.
The US has deployed the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system since 2017 in the town of Seongju, 300 km southeast of the capital Seoul. The deployment of missiles by allied countries is to counter the growing threat from North Korea.
