At an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on September 4, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley declared that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was "begging for war" by "misusing missiles and nuclear threats".
In response, the North Korean central news agency KCNA on September 8 called Ms. Haley's comments "arrogant" and affirmed that it would not leave the US alone, according to Fox News.
"Nikky should watch her mouth though she may be a blind fool," the KCNA news report warned. "The US government will pay dearly for her words."
US President Donald Trump stressed on September 7 that if the US had to resort to military measures to deal with nuclear threats from leader Kim Jong-un's administration, it would be "a very sad day for North Korea".
Mr Trump described North Korea's sixth nuclear test on September 3 as a "bad act" and Pyongyang "must stop". The US is seeking to increase economic sanctions in response to North Korea.
The United States, in its draft sanctions resolution, wants the UN Security Council to impose an oil embargo on North Korea, ban Pyongyang's textile exports, ban the hiring of North Korean laborers abroad, freeze the assets and ban travel of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
