North Korea warns of preemptive nuclear attack on US
North Korea announced on October 17 that it will continue to conduct nuclear tests and is ready to respond to attacks on the US with advanced nuclear weapons.
In an interview with the US NBC television channel, senior North Korean official Lee Yong Pin said that nuclear attacks are not the “monopoly” of the US. Therefore, he said, if the US intends to do so, North Korea will launch a preemptive strike because North Korea has developed advanced nuclear weapons technology.

The statement by the North Korean official came a day after the US Department of Defense warned that it would closely coordinate with allies South Korea and Japan after discovering that North Korea conducted a new ballistic missile launch but failed on October 15 in Kaesong province.
North Korea's recent provocative actions come as the US and South Korean militaries are conducting a large-scale joint naval exercise off the Korean peninsula, which is scheduled to end later this month./.
