North Korea warns US if it provokes war

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 7, the North Korean Foreign Ministry criticized US threats that could cause an inevitable war on the Korean peninsula.

According to Xinhua News Agency (China), a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said that the military exercises between the US and South Korea, along with the US's threats against Pyongyang, have made war on the Korean peninsula "an established reality."

“The only question now is, ‘When will war break out?’ We do not want a war, but it will be difficult to avoid it. And if the US miscalculates our patience and ignites a nuclear war, we are sure that the US will have to pay the consequences for provoking a war with a powerful nuclear force like ours,” KCNA quoted the North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have been rising in recent months following North Korea's missile tests. Most recently, on November 29, North Korea launched its latest intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong-15.

According to Reuters, US national security advisor H. McMaster said the possibility of war with North Korea is "increasing" due to the actions taken by both sides.

Recently, on December 4, the US and South Korea held a large-scale 5-day Vigilant Ace exercise with the participation of 230 advanced fighter jets. North Korea strongly condemned the US military move.

Meanwhile, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported on December 6 that China and Russia held naval and air exercises near the Korean peninsula to protest against military activities by the US and its ally South Korea.

The source said the Chinese and Russian exercises were aimed at gathering more intelligence from the US and South Korea during the Vigilant Ace exercise.
