North Korea's propaganda website Meari said this morning that the US and South Korea have been "continuously monitoring" the country's military facilities. Meari also detailed US fighter jets and what North Korea called "intensified military activities against the DPRK."
North Korea declared that it is ready to face any situation no matter what direction the US's actions against North Korea take. Meari stated: "North Korea is closely watching all provocations by hostile forces. They should know that North Korea's patience has its limits."
Propaganda site Meari specifically criticized South Korea for “following” the US, and called on South Korea to exercise restraint or face “terrible consequences.”
The United States and South Korea have been on high alert in recent days as North Korea threatened to send a “Christmas gift” in protest at the stalled nuclear talks. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the United States sent four spy planes to spy on North Korea, while South Korea also deployed its first advanced drone, the Global Hawk, to join the mission.
North Korea has previously threatened to take “new measures” if the US does not offer more flexibility in nuclear talks by the end of the year. Analysts fear that North Korea could test a long-range ballistic missile, ending diplomatic efforts and returning the situation on the Korean peninsula to the tense state it was in 2017. US President Donald Trump has warned North Korea against provocations because it could “lose everything”. However, North Korea has countered that it has “nothing left to lose”.
