(Baonghean.vn)- On July 7, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the head of the North Korean delegation attending a recent conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) criticized the United Nations (UN) sanctions, considering them a threat to the country's sovereignty and economic development.

In a message sent in English by KCNA, the head of the DPRK delegation made the above criticism in a speech at the 40th FAO conference held in Rome on July 4.

Stressing that a peaceful environment is a prerequisite for realizing the UN’s sustainable development goals, the official said certain countries are plotting to use their power to thwart the independence aspirations of developing countries. According to the official, the power-hungry policies of these countries pose a serious threat not only to national sovereignty but also to economic development.

“A typical example is the actions of hostile forces against the DPRK, imposing unprecedented inhumane sanctions on the country, aiming to overthrow the socialist regime and even suffocate the people’s livelihood,” the official said.

This communist country has long been subject to economic sanctions from the international community related to its consecutive missile and nuclear tests./.
