North Korea criticizes South Korean movie 'Crash Landing on You' as 'fabrication'
North Korean state media has accused South Korean films and television dramas of fabricating content and spreading anti-Korean propaganda.
"Recently, the South Korean authorities and film producers have been trying to promote their propaganda strategy by releasing lies and fabricated movies and TV dramas," Uriminzokkiri, a North Korean state-run news site, wrote in an editorial yesterday.
Uriminzokkiri did not specifically name the films that were criticized, but South Korea's Yonhap news agency said the site may be referring to recent blockbusters such as "Crash Landing On You" or "Ashfall."
"Crash Landing on You" is a romantic drama about the daughter of a South Korean tycoon and a North Korean officer, which depicts North Korea as a poor, economically backward country. "The Great Baekdu Disaster" tells the story of the efforts of South Korean and North Korean soldiers to prevent the eruption of Mount Baekdu with images of severely devastated North Korean villages.

"We cannot hide our astonishment at the fact that the South Korean government is releasing and supporting anti-North Korean films to blame the collapse of peace talks on the peninsula after damaging inter-Korean relations by heeding the instigation of the United States and taking military confrontational actions," Uriminzokkiri added.
The news site also warned that producers and publishers of similar content will have to "pay the price" for completely distorting the truth about North Korea and hurting the people of this country.
North Korea has recently increased pressure on South Korea and the United States over their joint military exercises. Pyongyang has said it will not return to the negotiating table unless Washington withdraws its hostile policy toward the country.
