"The invincible navy of the DPRK has always been united in its thinking that it will sink the entire US into the sea if Washington brings war clouds to the country," Rodong Sinmun, the mouthpiece of the Workers' Party of Korea, said in an editorial today to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK navy.
The article recalled North Korea's test-launch of a ballistic missile from a submarine in April 2016 and quoted then-leader Kim Jong-un's statement that Pyongyang "is now capable of stabbing the knife of destruction into the backs of South Korea and the United States at any time."
The editorial also said that advanced US aircraft carriers "are just like fat prey for the North Korean navy".
North Korea's warning came as tens of thousands of US and South Korean troops are conducting annual 10-day joint military exercises.
This is an annual exercise held for the past 41 years, to help Seoul prepare for an attack from Pyongyang. North Korea claims the exercise is a move to prepare for invasion by the US and South Korea, while Washington and Seoul always insist the exercise is only for defensive purposes and has no intention of increasing military tensions on the Korean peninsula.
