North Korea claims to have the most powerful nuclear weapons, modern strategic offensive measures and will attack "with converging firepower" on South Korea if there is any sign of provocation.
The US and South Korea plan to hold the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercises in March.
North Korea has often responded with a tough tone, threatening nuclear strikes against both the US and South Korea ahead of their annual joint military exercises. Pyongyang views the exercises as an invasion rehearsal, though allies say they are defensive in nature.
