North Korean television also broadcast a statement by Kim Jong-un stating: “Every North Korean must see this image on television and in the press. North Korea wants the US to see its confidence and wants to tell the US that if it wants to intercept, it can try. This image also shows that North Korea has studied this plan very carefully and is ready to deploy it at the right time.”
Also appearing with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the above photo are senior generals, notably Mr. Kim Jong Sik - a missile expert and one of the "leading architects" of North Korea's missile program.
These North Korean officials gathered in a “war room” with many maps of different areas of South Korea and Japan hanging right behind Kim Jong-un. To the left of the North Korean leader was a black and white satellite image.
According to Kim Dong-yub, a military expert at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University in Seoul, the launch location of the missile on the map is most likely the port city of Sinpo, where North Korea's submarine base is located.
According to Kim Dong-yub, this location coincides with what North Korea previously announced that they would launch four intermediate-range ballistic missiles from there, flying over Shimane, Hiroshima and Koichi prefectures of Japan and falling into the sea about 30-40km from Guam Island. These missiles will travel a distance of 3,356km in 1,056 seconds.
Previously, in 2013, when tensions were high, North Korea also threatened to attack US bases in the Pacific, including Guam and Hawaii. North Korean media also published images of Mr. Kim Jong-un at the General Command of the Army signing a decree to prepare the country's missiles to attack targets on US soil.
In the 2013 photo, there is a large map titled “Attacking Plan for the US mainland” including targets such as the capital Washington, the state of Texas and the island of Hawaii./.
