North Korea: Military mobilized to shoot…balloons.
(Baonghean.vn) - On Sunday, February 22, North Korea announced that it was ready to shoot down balloons carrying 10,000 DVDs of the film "The Interview" - a US-produced film about a failed CIA assassination attempt on Kim Jong Un.
According to the plan, South Korean activists will release balloons carrying 10,000 DVDs of the film "The Interview" across the southern border between the two countries. Furthermore, the activists plan to release 500,000 anti-North Korean leaflets along with copies of "The Interview" next week.

In response to the above information, the North Korean military warned, “All firepower of North Korean forces in the border area will be placed on high alert without any warning… All are ready to fire at the balloons.” North Korea’s official news agency KCNA reported that the balloons were a “political provocation” and “a de facto declaration of war.”
On the South Korean side, the country stated that it would retaliate if North Koreans fired guns toward its territory. It is known that South Korean activists organized this event to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the sinking of a South Korean warship in 2010, which killed 46 sailors. Following the incident, South Korea accused North Korea of being responsible and demanded that Pyongyang be held accountable.
This is not the first time South Korea has dropped leaflets and North Korea has shot down the balloons carrying them. A similar incident occurred in October 2010. Since the armistice, North and South Korea have remained in a state of confrontation and hostility.
