North Korea celebrates 100th birthday of Kim Jong-un's grandmother
North Korea issues stamps and holds cultural events to celebrate the birthday of the first wife of late leader Kim Il Sung.

On the occasion of Kim Jong-suk's birthday, North Korean media described her as the "sacred mother of the revolution" and a "master of marksmanship".
North Korea has issued stamps, minted gold and silver coins and held cultural performances in her honor. More than 300,000 people from all walks of life, including Koreans and foreigners, have visited her birthplace this year.
Kim Jong-suk was the first wife of North Korea's founding leader Kim Il-sung and the grandmother of current leader Kim Jong-un. She was born into a poor farming family on Christmas Eve 1917 and fought in the guerrilla forces against the Japanese in the 1930s.
She died in 1949, at the age of 31. According to official documents, she died early due to the hardships and difficulties of her time as a guerrilla fighter.
