Activity at North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear test site appears to have halted as the country looks to move toward summits with the United States and South Korea.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University released satellite images taken on March 17 of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site on March 23, Japan's NHK television reported.

North Korea has traditionally conducted nuclear tests at an underground tunnel complex at Punggye-ri. According to researchers, excavation work has continued at the West Gate tunnel complex after Pyongyang’s sixth nuclear test in September 2017.

The most recent activity at the test site was recorded on March 2, with vehicles seen near the tunnel and newly dug sand.

However, this work had stopped in the March 17 image. The team also said that the March 2 image showed people moving around outside the military base and other facilities, but they did not see such activity in the March 17 image.
