North Korea fired unidentified projectiles twice from South Pyongan province into the sea on the morning of September 10, the South Korean military said.

South Korea's Defense Ministry has not provided further details on North Korea's latest launch. "The military is monitoring the situation and maintaining a readiness posture in case of additional launches," the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

The launch came less than a day after North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui said Pyongyang was willing to restart talks with the United States over its nuclear program later this month at a mutually agreed time and place. Choe stressed that Washington needed to come up with a new approach or the talks could collapse again.

"We'll see," US President Donald Trump said, saying that negotiations are always a good thing. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed hope on September 8 to return to denuclearization talks with North Korea in the coming weeks.

In July, North Korea fired two short-range missiles from near Wonsan into the Sea of Japan in a show of force against US-South Korea military exercises. Later in July, North Korea fired multiple rocket launchers with a range of about 250 km. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un personally oversaw the two launches and expressed satisfaction with the new weapons systems.

In early August, North Korea launched several short-range missiles. The series of weapons tests was seen as a move to increase pressure on the US and South Korea amid deadlocked nuclear negotiations.
