North Korea fires missile into East Sea on New Year's Day
Yonhap news agency quoted an announcement from the South Korean military saying that on the morning of January 1, North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) into the East Sea of the country.

Information from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) shows that the missile was launched by North Korea from the Yongseong area in the capital Pyongyang at around 2:50 a.m. (local time).
This is the second missile launch in two consecutive days by North Korea. Previously, on the morning of December 31, 2022, North Korea launched three short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea of this country. JCS detected the missiles being launched from Chunghwa County, North Hwanghae Province at 8:00 a.m. on December 31 (local time). Japan also confirmed that North Korea's missiles fell in an area outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)./.
