Yonhap news agency reported that the South Korean military does not rule out the possibility that North Korea will test-launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
On September 3, Pyongyang announced that it had successfully tested an H-bomb, also known as a thermonuclear bomb, that can be mounted on an ICBM.
As tensions on the Korean Peninsula rise, South Korea's Defense Ministry announced that the country and the United States will seek to deploy a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, strategic bombers and other assets to the region in response to Pyongyang's latest nuclear test.
In addition, the South Korean military will also conduct a live-fire exercise this month, which will involve Taurus air-to-ground guided missiles deployed on F-15K fighter jets. The missile has a range of 500 kilometers and is capable of launching precision strikes on North Korea's key nuclear and missile facilities.
