This is a move to promote internal solidarity after North Korea decided to re-elect important positions.

Accordingly, Leader Kim Jong-un was re-elected as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at the first session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly (National Assembly) held on April 11.

Mr. Kim's new term will last for five years until the next National Assembly. The election of leader Kim Jong-un as Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea is considered a major political event of great historical significance for the country.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Choe Ryong-hae was elected Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea; senior member of the ruling Workers' Party Kim Jae-ryong was elected to replace Pak Pong-ju as Prime Minister of North Korea.

In addition, Mr. Kim Yong-chol and many people who participated in the second US-North Korea summit in Hanoi such as Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho and Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui were also elected to the State Affairs Commission.

In a speech on April 12, Chairman Kim Jong-un said that Pyongyang would not be stuck in dialogue with the US on lifting sanctions, and left open the possibility of a third summit with US President Donald Trump.

During a rally in Pyongyang on April 13, Mr. Choe Ryong-hae gave a congratulatory speech, affirming that this election and Chairman Kim Jong-un's speech have increased confidence in victory and fighting spirit to open a new path towards socialism, according to KCNA.

North Korean media has published numerous articles by veteran officials, promoting the leader's efforts to develop the country's economy despite US sanctions.
