Anti-socialist acts also include denouncing the regime, possessing illegal mobile phones, and watching or listening to “provocative” South Korean movies, pop music, and dances.

K-pop idol dances have gone viral in Pyongyang, with many young people paying for dance lessons, the source said. Violators face fines but no arrests.

“After North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered officials to wage war against anti-socialist developments last December, a relentless crackdown has been brewing across the country,” said a researcher at a think tank. “North Korea is using state media to promote discipline and carrying out monthly crackdowns on violators.”
