(Baonghean.vn) - North Korea is severely punishing women who wear short skirts and banning people from imitating the dances of South Korean music groups.

WebsiteDaily NK“North Korean authorities have summoned senior provincial officials ahead of the historic US-North Korea summit and lectured them on the topic of upholding socialism in the face of fierce attacks from foreign ideologies,” a source in Ryanggang Province, North Korea, told Yonhap News Agency on June 29.

Anti-socialist acts such as wearing skirts above the knee are punishable by a fine of 5,000 won. Also, wearing fishnet stockings or patterned stockings, or clothing with English words are prohibited.

Anti-socialist acts also include condemning the regime, illegally possessing mobile phones, and watching or listening to “provocative” South Korean movies, pop music, and dances.

K-pop idol dances have gone viral in Pyongyang, with many young people paying for dance lessons. Violators face fines but no jail time, the source said.

“After North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered officials to wage war against anti-socialist developments last December, a relentless crackdown has been brewing across the country,” said a researcher at a policy institute. “North Korea is using state media to promote discipline and carrying out monthly crackdowns on violators.”
