(Baonghean.vn) - On June 27, Mr. Kwon Jong Gun - Director of the US Affairs Department of the North Korean Foreign Ministry said that Washington needs to take practical action to come up with a new strategy to restore denuclearization negotiations, while warning that time is running out before the 1-year deadline set by Pyongyang.

After the failure of the second summit with US President Donald Trump last February, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un declared that a third US-North Korea summit could only take place if Washington had a more flexible approach.

Kim Jong-un stressed that he would wait until the end of the year. On June 26, South Korean President Moon Jae-in confirmed that the US is conducting secret dialogue with North Korea about the possibility of holding a third summit and proposed resuming expert-level talks.

However, President Trump announced that he will not meet the North Korean leader on the sidelines of the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Japan this week.

Mr. Kwon Jong Gun said that the US has recently mentioned dialogue but "cautiously carried out hostile actions." He did not give details, but a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said on June 26 that the US's expansion of sanctions against Pyongyang was a hostile act and a direct protest against the first US-North Korea summit in Singapore last year.

North Korea's criticism came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said last weekend that a recent exchange of letters between the US and North Korean leaders had boosted hopes for a possible resumption of talks.

In addition, Mr. Kwon also warned that South Korea should stop "interfering" in negotiations between Pyongyang and Washington./.
