Gas lighters, water bottles, carbonated drinks, cosmetics, etc. are often left in cars by car owners. However, these are items that can lead to the risk of fire or explosion in hot weather.

Due to the greenhouse effect, if you leave your car outside in the sun with a temperature of approximately 40 degrees Celsius like today, the temperature in the cabin can be "burned" to 65-70 degrees Celsius. With such high temperatures, combined with direct sunlight, many items left in the car can be damaged, degraded, deformed, or even explode.

In fact, in the world and in Vietnam, there have been many cases of objects such as gas lighters, fire extinguishers or soft drink cans exploding in cars when parked in the sun. This not only damages the car's interior but also poses a very dangerous risk of car fires.

Therefore, experts advise that when having to park a car under the sun, the following items should be immediately removed or placed in safe locations, away from direct sunlight.

1. Lighter, mini fire extinguisher, carbonated drinks

Gas lighters are known as "time bombs" if left in cars. The gas in lighters easily expands when exposed to high temperatures, leading to the risk of explosion. As a result, some parts of the car can be damaged, even causing a fire. Therefore, when parking in hot, sunny weather, the lighter should be removed from the car.

Similarly, with mini fire extinguishers, carbonated drinks or perfumes, the liquid chemicals inside can expand strongly when exposed to strong sunlight and high temperatures, leading to the risk of the tank (metal shell) exploding, causing damage and certain inconvenience to the vehicle owner.

To minimize risks, experts recommend that you should immediately remove carbonated drinks, perfume bottles, etc. from the car. If you have to place a mini fire extinguisher in the car, you should choose a location that is not directly exposed to sunlight, such as the trunk, door compartment, or under the seat. Do not place it on the dashboard or near the glass doors.

2. Mineral water bottle

Plastic water bottles are items that are often placed in cars in places such as on the seats, gear shift area, and many people even place them on the dashboard... Experts warn that water in plastic bottles when left in the sun for a long time can change its chemical composition and become toxic to the human body.

More dangerously, the bottle can concentrate the sun’s rays and turn them into a very bright light, similar to a converging lens. That light can be strong enough to ignite materials such as leather or plastic that it shines on, leading to a high risk of fire.

Therefore, the safest place to put water bottles in the car is under the trunk or in the storage area behind the front seats. Absolutely do not leave water bottles on the dashboard when parked in the sun.

3. Plastic and rubber objects

At high temperatures, plastic or flexible rubber items such as gloves, rubber sandals, adhesive tape, etc. can completely deform, be damaged and affect other parts of the vehicle. In addition, plastic items such as sunglasses, CDs, DVDs, plastic boxes, etc. when exposed to sunlight can also become brittle and deteriorate faster.

4. Electronic devices

According to experts, leaving electronic devices such as phones, cameras, laptops, etc. in the car will affect their lifespan. At high temperatures of 65-70 degrees Celsius, the components in these devices are easily damaged or even melted. For example, leaving a camera in the car on a summer day can cause the lens and memory card to lose their effectiveness.

Leaving electronic devices in a car under hot sun can easily damage them due to high temperatures.

Therefore, it is necessary to minimize leaving electronic devices in the car on hot days. Even with dash cams, if you have to leave the car outside in the sun, you should remove them and store them in a cool place to ensure the longevity of the device.

5. Cosmetics, medicines, foods

Many people, especially women, have the habit of carrying cosmetics, sunscreen and many types of medicine in the car. But the reality is that most cosmetics and medicine are best preserved at temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius. With high temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius like in a car, most cosmetics quickly deteriorate, lose their effectiveness and even harm the body.

Similar to foods such as cakes, candies, chocolates, when exposed to high temperatures will lead to damage, smell and melt in the car, very unsanitary. Therefore, these are the types of food that need to be paid attention to and removed from the car when the weather is hot.

Experts also advise that when forced to leave the car in the hot sun for a long time, it is necessary to take appropriate protective measures, especially the front glass of the car. At the same time, the window can be opened a little to let the heat escape, avoiding the greenhouse effect leading to too high temperature inside the car.
