Just out of prison, Thang immediately formed a group to steal cars. He spent the money from selling the stolen cars on gambling.

On June 7, Hanoi court brought Nguyen Van Thang (born 1986, from Phuc Yen town, Vinh Phuc) and his accomplices to trial for theft of property.

Having a criminal record for gambling, having just been released from prison after serving a 12-month sentence for theft, having no job, and being addicted to gambling, Thang invited Nguyen Van Binh (born in 1980, residing in Phuc Yen town, Vinh Phuc) to form a group to steal a car.

Thang carried out the first case alone. At dawn on March 21, 2015, while walking in Xuan Dinh ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi, he discovered an unattended Kia Pride car. Thang used a pliers to break the lock and open the car door, then drove to Phuc Yen town and sold it to Duong Van Xuan (born in 1987, residing in Soc Son district, Hanoi) for 3 million VND.

Thang and Xuan met each other when participating in a gambling den in Phuc Yen town, Vinh Phuc in October 2015.

After buying the car, Xuan and Nguyen Van Nam (born in 1988, residing in Soc Son district, Hanoi) brought it to Cam Pha city, Quang Ninh to resell it for 6 million VND.

After easily taking the Kia Pride, Thang started to invite Binh to join. On the night of March 24, 2015, after playing video games, at 1:00 a.m. on March 25, 2015, also in Bac Tu Liem district, he discovered an unattended Toyota Cresida. Binh stood guard while Thang used a crowbar to break the car lock. Xuan and Nam valued the car at 8 million VND. They later sold the car for 11 million VND.

Three days later, without hitting the target in Bac Tu Liem district, Thang and Binh moved to Tay Ho district. Here, the two thieves saw a Nissan Bluebird parked in front of an apartment building, so they broke the lock and stole it. However, this was also the last time these two thieves were discovered and arrested by the Hanoi Police task force. According to their statement, in addition to giving Binh the money from selling the car, Thang also gambled it away.

Expanding the investigation, the police arrested Xuan and Nam. The police also clarified that these two subjects had consumed stolen vehicles 9 more times and forged vehicle documents.

For the crime of theft, Thang continued to go to prison with a sentence of 5 years. His accomplice in the crime of theft, Binh received a sentence of 4 years in prison.

For the crime of receiving property from another person's crime, Xuan received a sentence of 5 years in prison. In addition to the crime of receiving property from another person's crime, Nam also committed the crime of forging seals and documents of an organization, so he received a sentence of 6 years and 6 months in prison./.
