Stealing motorbikes to get money to satisfy addiction
(Baonghean.vn) - To have money to buy drugs, Lu Van Tung stole Huy's motorbike that was parked on the side of the road. Hearing the sound of the motorbike starting, Huy shouted and Tung was immediately chased and arrested by the people.
On the morning of April 26, Tung (23 years old, residing in Chau Loc commune, Quy Hop district) was tried by the People's Court of Quy Hop district for the crime of property theft.
According to the indictment, at about 9:30 a.m. on January 22, 2018, Tung was walking alone on Highway 48C in the direction of Tam Hop commune to Nghia Xuan. When he reached the road in front of Huy's house in Tan Tien hamlet (Tam Hop), Tung discovered Huy's motorbike, license plate 37X6-6549, with the key already inserted in it, parked on the side of the road.

Seeing that Huy and some construction workers were not paying attention, Tung had the idea of stealing a motorbike to sell to get money to buy drugs.
When approaching the car, the key wouldn't start, so Tung stepped on the starter to start the car, then drove on Highway 48C towards Quy Hop town.
Hearing the sound of the motorbike, Huy called out to everyone around to chase after him. While chasing Tung to Tho Son hamlet (Tho Hop), Nguyen Nhan Hai and some other people captured Tung and his motorbike. Tung and his motorbike were then handed over to the Tho Hop commune police for handling.
Before being arrested, in 2013, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison with a suspended sentence by the People's Court of Quy Hop district for the crime of "Theft of property" and in February 2017, he was administratively punished by the Quy Hop police for the act of "Forcing others to marry".
Based on the evidence and documents examined at the trial; based on the results of the debate at the trial on the basis of full and comprehensive consideration of the evidence, opinions of the Prosecutor, the defendant and other participants in the proceedings. The Panel of Judges sentenced Lu Van Tung to 12 months in prison for the crime of "Theft of property" under Clause 1, Article 173 of the 2015 Penal Code.
