After many ups and downs with frogs, up to now, Mr. Pham Dang Tap, 35 years old, has built a model of raising frogs for meat with high economic efficiency and brings in an annual income of nearly half a billion VND.

Mr. Pham Dang Tap, in Yen Dong commune, Yen Mo district (Ninh Binh) started raising Thai frogs in 2014. At first, he only tried raising them on a small scale, about 1,000 frogs. Although he had just started raising them for trial, the frogs developed quite well and that year he harvested more than 200 kg of commercial frog meat. After deducting all expenses, his family earned more than 2 million VND for 1,000 frogs.

According to Mr. Tap, Thai frogs grow very quickly and can be released at a very high density of 100 to 130 frogs/1m2.

Realizing that this type of Thai frog is economically efficient, he continued to invest in building ponds to expand the scale. After many years of working in frog farming, Mr. Tap's family's commercial frog farming scale has now reached nearly 100,000 frogs of all kinds.

With these frogs, on average, his family exports nearly 20 tons of commercial frog meat to the market each year. Mr. Tap sells frog meat for around 45,000 VND/kg. After deducting all expenses, Mr. Pham Van Tap's family earns more than 400 million VND each year.

To achieve the success he has today, Mr. Tap also encountered many difficulties, there were times when he lost sleep and was miserable because of the frogs. “Two years ago, the frogs that were about to be sold suddenly stopped eating and died. Despite all efforts, only a small part of them could be saved. All the money and effort poured into the frogs... almost went to waste...”, Mr. Tap recalled.

According to Mr. Tap, on average, to get 1 kg of commercial frog meat, it will cost about 1.3 kg of bran. After adding the cost of seeds, electricity and other costs, 1 kg of frog will cost about 30,000 VND. With the current purchase price, 1 kg of commercial frog, after deducting all costs, will make a profit of about 20,000 VND.

Talking more about Thai frogs, Mr. Tap said that because frogs do not tolerate cold well, they can only be raised in the North from April to November. If you can take the initiative in breeding, you can raise 3 batches a year, each batch can be raised for about 75 days before being sold.

During the process of raising Thai frogs, Mr. Tap continuously learned more experience, participated in training courses on knowledge and frog farming techniques, as well as visited highly effective frog farming models in and outside the province.

Sharing the secret to raising frogs to grow quickly, Mr. Tap said that during the raising process, he often crushed garlic, mixed it into food and fed it to the frogs every day. Thanks to this method, his family's frogs are always healthy, with firm and delicious meat.

“On average, I sell about 3 batches of frogs each year, with nearly 20 tons of commercial frog meat. Currently, the price of commercial frogs is around 45,000 VND/kg,” said Mr. Tap.

Mr. Tap affirmed that compared to raising livestock and poultry, raising commercial Thai frogs has higher productivity and economic efficiency. The initial investment cost for the model is very low, and the frogs' food is also simple, mainly feeding with floating pellets.

To increase the resistance of the frogs, Mr. Tap often crushes garlic, mixes it into food and feeds the frogs every day.

Sharing about the technique of raising Thai frogs, Mr. Tap said that if you regularly feed garlic, the frogs will rarely get sick, if they do, it is mainly due to the water source not being guaranteed. During the raising process, it is necessary to regularly change and clean the water source to ensure the frogs' development.
