Escaped arrest, changed name and was elected village chief

(Baonghean.vn) - After escaping from arrest, Vi Van Thau went to Na Hang village, Mai Son commune, Tuong Duong district to live and work. Here, Thau changed his name to Vi Van Thang and was elected village chief.

On December 30, the Criminal Investigation Department of Nghe An Province Police (PC52) escorted the fugitive, Vi Van Thau (born 1978), from Chau Kim commune, Que Phong district, to court.

According to police documents, in 2000, Vi Van Thau and Vi Van Quang (born 1976, residing in Chau Kim commune, Que Phong district) participated in an illegal drug trafficking ring of nearly 1 kg of opium.

While transporting drugs for sale, he was surrounded and arrested by the police. Quang was arrested along with the evidence, while Thau fled the area. In 2002, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency issued a special nationwide warrant for Vi Van Thau.

After many years of verification and pursuit, on December 30, the working group of Team 4, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Provincial Police arrested Vi Van Thau in Na Hang village, Mai Son commune, Tuong Duong district.

When arrested, Vi Van Thau changed his name to Vi Van Thang and registered his household in the locality. After many years of living there, he was elected as the village chief by the people and in May 2016, he was elected to the People's Council of Mai Son commune.

Currently, the subject has been handed over to the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police to continue handling according to regulations.
