Growing clean watermelons makes a profit of 7-8 million VND/sao

(Baonghean.vn) - These days, farmers in Nghi Long commune (Nghi Loc) have started harvesting watermelons. After 2 months of planting and caring, 1 hectare of watermelon brings in an income of approximately 160 million VND.

Mr. Vo Van Hien in Hamlet 13 - one of the households with the largest melon growing area in the commune, said: This year, his family grows 10 sao of melons. Realizing that consumers need clean products, the family follows food safety and hygiene procedures during the growing process. The family's melons are harvested by traders who come to the field to buy them, so there is no need to worry about the output.

With the purchase price at the field of 5,000 VND/kg, on average 1 sao of melons gives a profit of 7-8 million VND. This melon crop, his family earned approximately 80 million VND.

Nghi Long farmers harvest melons

According to melon growers in Nghi Long, this year, despite the prolonged heat, the watermelon yield still reached 28 tons/ha. Farmers are very excited because the output is very easy to sell.

At the beginning of the season, farmers were trained in melon growing techniques in accordance with food safety and hygiene, so this year's melons are sweeter than last year, so customers love them.

Traders come to buy at the field

Currently, the entire Nghi Long commune produces 40 hectares, mainly high-yield melon varieties suitable for sandy soil fields with proactive water sources and fast drainage systems.

The economic efficiency of melons opens up a new direction for Nghi Long people, overcoming difficulties caused by complex farming terrain. The People's Committee of the commune encourages the expansion of melon growing areas, while promoting the transfer of science and technology for farmers to apply, improving the quality and yield of crops.
