(Baonghean.vn) - Along with other crops, at this time in Nam Anh commune, Nam Dan district (Nghe An), people are harvesting passionflower - one of the main crops of the commune.
Morning glory flowers are planted from the 7th lunar month of the previous year to the 4th lunar month of the following year. This is the beginning of the harvest season so almost all families mobilize all their forces to go to the fields.
Besides its economic value, the flower of the passion flower also has the effect of preventing prickly heat, is a sedative, helps sleep well, nourishes the heart and kidneys, reduces nocturia, relieves fatigue and back pain, has anti-inflammatory properties and dissolves membranes, promotes rapid skin regeneration, is used to treat conditions such as acute and chronic conjunctivitis, keratitis and opacity of the eye membrane, conjunctivitis caused by measles, and treats pinworms.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (Hamlet 9) said: her family grows 1 sao of morning glory flowers, this year due to the drought many of them died. However, it is the beginning of the season so the price is higher. Calculating, 1 sao of hers brings in an income of 17 million VND.
Along with other crops, for the past 3 years, Nam Anh has planted passionflower on a large scale on an area of 60 hectares (the whole commune). Mr. Dinh Xuan Hung (in the photo) said: compared to other crops, passionflower is easier to grow, has a longer harvest time, and the income is also quite stable.
After harvesting, the passion flower is purchased right in the field at 30 thousand VND/kg.
Passionflower can be processed into attractive dishes to cool down in the summer, such as soup with minced meat, very suitable for the elderly and children.
Stir-fried beef with passionflower is also an attractive dish chosen by housewives.
