(Baonghean.vn) - Along with other crops, at this time in Nam Anh commune, Nam Dan district (Nghe An province), people are harvesting the flowers of the Telosma cordata plant - one of the commune's main crops.
The Chinese honeysuckle is planted from the 7th lunar month of the previous year to the 4th lunar month of the following year. This is the beginning of the harvest season, so almost all families mobilize all their manpower to the fields.
Besides its economic value, the flowers of the Chinese honeysuckle plant also have anti-rash properties, act as a sedative, promote restful sleep, nourish the heart and kidneys, reduce nighttime urination, alleviate fatigue and back pain, have anti-inflammatory properties, dissolve cataracts, and promote the growth of new skin. They are used in the treatment of conditions such as acute and chronic conjunctivitis, keratitis and corneal opacity, measles conjunctivitis, and pinworm infestation.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (Hamlet 9) said: her family planted 1 sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of jasmine flowers, but this year the drought caused many to die. However, since it's the beginning of the season, the price is higher. Calculated, her 1 sao yielded an income of 17 million VND.
Along with other crops, for the past three years, Nam Anh has been cultivating the Chinese honeysuckle (Telosma cordata) on a large scale across 60 hectares (the entire commune). Mr. Dinh Xuan Hung (pictured) said: compared to other crops, Chinese honeysuckle is easier to grow, has a longer harvesting period, and provides a fairly stable income.
After harvesting, the flowers of the Chinese honeysuckle are purchased directly from the field at a price of 30,000 VND/kg.
The flowers of the Telosma cordata plant can be processed into delicious dishes that cool the summer, such as soup with minced meat, which is very suitable for the elderly and children.
Stir-fried cowslip flowers with beef is also an attractive dish favored by housewives.
