Growing squash, earning more than 10 million/sao

These days, Ms. Vo Thi Huong's family in village 1/5, Cam Son commune, is focusing on harvesting 1.5 sao of squash on the land.

Ms. Huong said: “Growing luffa does not require a large investment, and it is an easy-to-grow plant, so for the past 3 years, her family has been attached to this plant. After 45 days of planting, luffa begins to be harvested daily, and can be harvested continuously for 3-4 months. On average, her family harvests 60-80 kg of fruit per day, with the current selling price of 3,000 VND/kg. There was a time when the market was short of green vegetables, and the price of luffa was pushed up to 8,000-10,000 VND/kg. After deducting costs, each sao also gives the family an income of 10-12 million VND.”

As one of the households that has grown luffa for many years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai, Hoi Lam village, Cam Son commune, said: Luffa is quite simple to care for, has few pests and diseases, and can also take advantage of the free time of farming. With an area of ​​2 sao, her family cuts and sells about 80 - 100 kg of luffa every day.

According to Ms. Hai: In addition to fertilizer and seeds, when growing squash, it is important to prune old leaves and cut off the vines to create ventilation for the plant to grow. Furthermore, the harvest season is often long, so fertilizing and watering must be done regularly. To have long, even squash, when the plant begins to bear fruit, check every day to see which fruit is stuck in the mesh and then let it hang straight down naturally.

Currently, aromatic squash is grown mostly in Ha Du hamlet, Hoi Lam hamlet and village 1/5 of Cam Son commune with an area of ​​5 hectares because this squash variety bears many fruits, is delicious and is favored by the market. The investment capital for planting is not much, only investing in trellis and people propagate the seeds themselves to plant for each crop. Each sao of squash yields from 1.5 to 2 tons, on average each sao gives a net profit of 10 - 12 million VND.
