The reason the VFF chose this match is because both teams are currently in the top group of the standings. HN.T&T is currently competing for the championship with B.BD, while Thanh Hoa is aiming for a medal position.
After round 22 of the 2014 V-League, HN.T&T has 44 points and is only 1 point behind the leading team, B.BD. It is highly likely that the race between HN.T&T and B.BD will be decided in the final round of matches. HN.T&T will have to defeat a very strong team with high ambitions, Thanh Hoa, while B.BD will have to play away at SHB.DN.
HN.T&T needs to secure all three points in this match to win the championship, while Thanh Hoa also wants to win to claim a medal. Because of the high ambitions of both teams, the VFF (Vietnam Football Federation) does not want any mistakes in the officiating of the match. Assigning a Japanese referee to officiate this game will help both teams feel more secure in their match.
Previously, the match between B.BD and HN.T&T was also officiated by a Japanese referee, Mr. Toma Masaaki. Furthermore, on June 12th, the match between B.BD and Thanh Hoa was also officiated by a Japanese referee, Mr. Sato Ryuji. This was the first V-League match to feature a Japanese referee.
