(Baonghean.vn) - The Thai referee who officiated the Hanoi - Quang Nam match in round 25 of the V.League has been arrested for his involvement in match-fixing in the Thai League. Public opinion is asking, where did the loophole that led to this incident come from?

Information about Thai referee Pummarin Khamruen appeared on the morning of November 21. This “black shirt king” was arrested by Thai police. The reason was his involvement in match-fixing in the Thai League.

It is worth mentioning that the Thai referee who was arrested and brought to Vietnam just officiated the match between Hanoi and Quang Nam in round 25 of V.League 2017 and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) invited the referee. And he even did his job very well.

In fact, the Referee Board and the Tournament Organizing Committee are only responsible for agreeing which foreign referees will be invited to officiate the V.League matches. After that, the report is submitted to the VFF to invite foreign referees. Only the Vietnam Football Federation is allowed to work with the National Football Federations to invite referees. And so, the Thai referee was brought to the Hanoi - Quang Nam match by the VFF working with the Thai Federation.

On the other hand, hiring foreign referees to officiate matches in the V.League does not have to go through the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), the VFF only works with the national football federations. Therefore, the VFF only works with the Thai Football Federation and they sent referee Pummarin Khamruen to officiate in the V.League.

Head of the referee board Nguyen Van Mui spoke out today (November 22) about the above issue: “We think it is impossible to predict what will happen in Thailand. The important thing is whether the invited referee will officiate well or not. According to the report sent back, the Thai referee did a good job of officiating the match between Hanoi and Quang Nam.”

The Vietnam Football Federation and the VFF Referee Board are not proactive in selecting referees but depend on the recommendations of national football federations. Some opinions say that the V.League Organizing Committee has a list of referees and they choose to invite them to officiate in Vietnam, but the truth is not like that./.
