The famous Quy duck lays gold
(Baonghean.vn) - Quy duck has long been known as the number one product in Western Nghe An. This is a breed of waterfowl originating in the land of Quy Chau, Que Phong. In addition to its nutritional value, Quy duck also has a rare genetic source. Surrounding this native waterfowl species, there are also stories about ducks that literally "lay gold".
How to identify Quy duck:
Currently in Quy Chau and Que Phong areas, there are not many original duck breeds left, only a few households raise them on a small scale to serve their family needs.
Mr. Vi Thanh Doan in Xom Moi village, Chau Phong commune (Quy Chau district) said that the characteristics of Quy ducks are large heads, short necks, low legs, and belly close to the ground. An adult duck weighs only 1.5 - 1.8 kg. Raising Quy ducks is not too difficult, they usually find their own food in streams, farmers only need to add rice during the egg-laying period.

In addition to not using industrial feed, for a long time, people who want to increase their flocks have not incubated eggs in incubators. As Ms. Lo Thi Phuc, wife of Mr. Vi Thanh Doan, said, people still "ask" chickens to incubate for them. And even though they are also in Que Phong, Quy Chau, not every village can raise Quy ducks because they depend on water sources, ponds, lakes, and streams.

Unlike other types of duck, Quy gourd duck has small bones, fragrant meat, long-lasting sweetness, especially soft but not mushy, fatty but not boring. There are many ways to prepare Quy gourd duck, in addition to steaming and roasting, for a long time, Thai people have cooked duck with sour bamboo shoots, grilled with forest leaves... These are dishes that make diners fascinated.

In addition to the rare nutritional values, the Quy duck breed also has stories told by locals about ducks that literally "lay golden eggs". Accordingly, in the past, the land of Que Phong, Quy Chau was considered the "golden navel" in the Western Nghe An region, and in the process of searching for food in the streams, the ducks swallowed alluvial gold. Therefore, when people slaughtered the ducks, they found gold dust in the duck's gizzard. And this made the Quy duck even more "famous" among waterfowl.
"Currently, Quy Chau district is also implementing programs and projects such as Program 30a to support people in developing Quy Chau duck herds, but basically they are all F1, F2 hybrids, and there are not many original ducks" - Mr. Vi Thanh Doan said.
