US military helicopter anchors on cliff to rescue trapped people
The pilot of a US CH-47 helicopter demonstrated his skillful control skills during a rescue operation for people trapped on a mountain nearly 3,500 m high.
On July 13, the US Air Force dispatched a CH-47 Chinook heavy transport helicopter to rescue a climber trapped in a dangerous position on Mount Hood in Oregon, which has an altitude of up to 3,429 m, according toBusiness Insider.
A UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter took off to perform the rescue mission after receiving the distress call, military sources said. However, due to the thin air at high altitudes that can affect the operation of single-rotor helicopters, the 168th Air Force Regiment had to deploy a twin-rotor CH-47 instead.
Video released shows the Chinook pilot landing the back of the aircraft on the cliff, while the front section is kept suspended over the cliff edge so rescuers can reach and rescue the victim. The helicopter is lifted safely into the air after the trapped person is brought inside.
The CH-47 Chinook is one of the largest transport helicopters in the world, developed by Boeing Rotocraft Systems since the 1960s. In addition to its ability to carry large amounts of cargo in its hold, the CH-47 can also lift bulky equipment and weapons onto the battlefield.
During wars, the US Air Force often used the CH-47 to transport heavy weapons to difficult areas. Currently, the CH-47 helicopter is in service with the armies of many countries around the world, including many US allies.
