According to local TV channel KUTV, two members of the helicopter's crew suffered minor injuries. The group was on a mission to track and hunt deer as part of a local natural resources management program.
According to the TV channel, during the operation, the deer tried to escape by raising its antlers and "butting" the main rotor of the helicopter which was flying about 3 meters above the ground.

“The helicopter was only about 10 feet above the ground and could have landed,” said Mark Hadley, a local leader. “We usually catch hundreds of animals every winter and this has never happened before.”
Due to the unusual collision, the deer was killed.
