"US President Donald Trump has directly asked us to develop viable and credible military options, and that is exactly what we are doing," AP quoted him as saying today.General Joseph Dunford,"If the president comes to us with a decision to use force, we will provide options for him," said the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.

A military solution to the North Korean missile threat would be "terrible," but allowing Pyongyang to develop a nuclear strike capability against the United States was "unimaginable," Dunford said.

Mr. Dunford was asked to comment on his remarks.Mr. Steve Bannon, cPresident Trump's strategist,The United States currently has no viable military solution to North Korea's nuclear threat and ambitions, the White House said.

"Until somebody solves that part of the problem, which is how to prevent 10 million people in Seoul from dying from conventional weapons in the first 30 minutes of a war, I don't know what you're talking about. There's no military solution here," Mr. Bannon stressed.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un this week postponed plans to launch missiles toward Guam, saying he would wait to see how the US reacts.Previous threats from North Korea have prompted President Donald Trump to declare the US military "locked and loaded" if Pyongyang acts unwisely.
