Trump offers to meet Kim Jong-un in Vietnam in mid-February

US President Donald Trump has proposed holding an upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Vietnam in mid-February, according to South Korea's Yonhap newspaper on January 13.

According to news agencies, Pyongyang is considering this proposal, but there has been no official response so far.

Singapore's Straits Times reported on January 13 that Vietnam is considered the top choice for the upcoming US-North Korea summit. According to Japan's Yomiuri, Indonesia, Mongolia and the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas are also being considered as venues for the meeting.

The historic meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on June 12, 2018 produced a joint statement. In it, North Korea pledged to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, while the US also promised to ensure the security of the country. In addition, the US President also pledged not to hold joint military exercises with South Korea at the Korean-North Korean border.

Previously, on December 2, 2018, Trump said that the upcoming meeting with Kim would likely be held in January or February 2019.
