“Trump and Macron spoke by phone and agreed that they want to invite Russia to the G7 summit next year, an official said. Trump will raise the issue at the upcoming G7 leaders’ meeting,” a CNN reporter posted on Twitter on August 21. This is said to be an initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Previously, on August 20, Trump announced to the press at the White House that he would support bringing Russia back to the G7 group and start working in the G8 format. At the same time, Trump also expressed his opinion that Russia was excluded from the G8 because Russian President Vladimir Putin was "smarter" than Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama.
