In her eulogy at her father's funeral, Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator John McCain, said that America "doesn't need to be great again" because it "has always been great." Meghan's message is said to be aimed at criticizing US President Donald Trump's slogan when he ran for the White House in 2016, according toUSA Today.
President Trump was not invited to the funeral. During the service, he spent time at Trump National Golf Club in Loudoun County, Virginia. Shortly after Meghan McCain's speech, the White House chief retweeted the slogan in capital letters on Twitter. "Make America Great Again," Trump wrote.
Trump's tweet immediately attracted attention. Many people believe that this is the US President's way of responding to the implicit criticism from the daughter of the late Senator McCain and emphasizing that he will continue to pursue the goal of "making America great again".
Senator John McCain’s funeral was held yesterday at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. His coffin was taken from Capitol Hill to the cathedral and stopped at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, where hundreds of people waited to say goodbye to him.
Three former US Presidents, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, went to the National Cathedral to bid farewell to McCain, with Bush and Obama delivering eulogies at the late senator's request.
