Trump: Relations with Russia “have never been worse” thanks to US “stupidity”
(Baonghean.vn) - A few hours before the summit, Mr. Trump "borrowed" the social network Twitter to assert that Moscow-Washington relations have never been worse thanks to years of "stupidity" and "silliness" by the US.

Trump tweeted on July 16: “Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. stupidity and foolishness, and now the Rigged Witch Hunt!”
Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo affirmed that the prospect of improving relations between Moscow and Washington lies in Russia's hands. "A better relationship with the Russian government would benefit all, but the ball is in Russia's court," the senior US official wrote on Twitter.
Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov asserted that the Russian leader is realistic enough to accept that Donald Trump puts America's national interests above all else, but in order to build a mutually beneficial relationship, Putin expects his American counterpart to respect Russia.
“This is what we hope to achieve at this summit. We hope that this will be a small step towards overcoming the current critical situation in our bilateral relations,” Peskov told RT.
All eyes around the world are on the Finnish capital, where the leaders of the world’s two superpowers are set to meet on July 16. A day earlier, Trump stressed that he was going into the meeting with “low expectations,” adding that “nothing bad can come out of the meeting and some good things can come out of it.”
Trump later tweeted that even if he gave Moscow sanctions, his critics would say it was not good enough.
