“President Trump gave Mr. Putin Ovechkin’s jersey and a hockey puck,” Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s spokesman, told reporters after the summit talks between Trump and Putin in Helsinki on July 16.
The ice hockey-related gifts the US President gave his Russian counterpart came after Putin gave Trump a soccer ball.
At a bilateral press conference following the summit talks, Putin presented Trump with the official match ball of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Telstar 18, manufactured by Adidas. The Russian president said the gift was significant because the United States will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
