The results were released after a test at the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention on the afternoon of April 12. The victim is a 7-year-old child who is currently being treated at Beijing Ditan Hospital.
According to Beijing health authorities, the two people who had the closest contact with this patient showed no flu symptoms.
China has reported 43 cases of H7N9 infection nationwide. To date, this virus, which the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) considers to be the most difficult to detect in poultry, has claimed the lives of 11 people.
It is known that H7N9 infects poultry but does not cause disease or only causes mild disease, making it extremely difficult to understand the mechanism of transmission.
