China builds third aircraft carrier
In 2017, China began building its third aircraft carrier at a shipyard in Shanghai, the South China Morning Post reported, citing military sources.

China is trying to create a fleet capable of reaching the world's oceans, but at the moment the Chinese navy has only the aircraft carrier Liaoning, created on the basis of the Soviet cruiser Varyag.
In April 2017, China began building its next aircraft carrier, the first to be domestically produced. It is expected to be put into service by the end of this year.
According to sources, in March 2017, Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard Group was approved to build the third aircraft carrier.
"The shipyard is designing the hull, which is expected to take about two years," the source said. However, it is too early to say when the third aircraft carrier will be launched.
