China calls US action over submarine seizure 'exaggerated'

China's Defense Ministry called the US action after the Chinese navy seized US Navy diving equipment in the South China Sea "exaggerated".

In a commentary published on the Chinese Ministry of National Defense website, it was said that on December 15, a Chinese Navy rescue ship discovered an unidentified device in the waters of the South China Sea. In order to avoid endangering the passage of ships and people, the Chinese side demonstrated professionalism and responsibility, checking whether the object was "friend or foe".

The inspection showed that the object was a US underwater drone. "China has directly contacted the US on this issue. The hype of the incident unilaterally raised by the US side is not conducive to a smooth resolution of the issue. We deeply regret this," a part of the statement said.
