China and Russia pledge to strengthen strategic relations.

Speaking at a meeting on August 16 in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi pledged to strengthen and deepen their bilateral strategic relationship.

President Putin emphasized that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to work towards elevating bilateral relations to a new level.

According to Putin, Russia has the desire and belief to cooperate with China to fully implement plans for developing bilateral relations, maintain high-level contacts, and deepen substantive cooperation, strengthen coordination on international issues, and contribute to ensuring peace and security in the region and the world.

Furthermore, the two countries will also strive to contribute to the success of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan, as well as to ensuring regional peace and security and promoting shared prosperity for SCO members.

For his part, Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi affirmed that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia will continue to develop strongly in the future under the guidance of the leaders of the two countries. Yang Jiechi assessed that Sino-Russian relations are developing comprehensively in all fields.
