According to Xinhua News Agency, at a bilateral meeting in Beijing on the same day, Chinese President Xi Jinping told French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe that Beijing wants to cooperate with Paris to promote the cross-border infrastructure initiative "Belt and Road".
For his part, the Philippine Prime Minister said that France is ready to promote cooperation in areas such as nuclear use, aviation and space activities.
President Trump's policies have raised concerns about a global trade war and a world economic recession, with the businessman-turned-president trying to impose higher tariffs on imports from countries including China to protect domestic US industries.
Meanwhile, China has sought to expand its infrastructure network in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa, aiming to more closely connect countries along the ancient Silk Road.
However, some analysts say President Xi Jinping's initiative is aimed at countering the US and boosting China's political influence globally.
Xi Jinping has emphasized his desire to expand “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” globally, as an alternative to Western values based on capitalism.
