China and Russia warn that the situation in North Korea is very dangerous.

Despite repeated calls for restraint from all sides, both China and Russia are now expressing concern.

According to Kyodo news agency, the Chinese Ambassador to Japan said the situation in North Korea is very dangerous, could lead to military conflict and called for diplomatic efforts to help reduce tensions.

Speaking at the National Press Club of Japan in Tokyo on September 26, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua said that the current situation in North Korea could lead to military conflict.

Mr. Cheng affirmed that China's top priority is to prevent the situation from becoming more complicated and leading to the risk of military conflict, emphasizing the need to resolve the North Korea issue peacefully through dialogue.

The Chinese ambassador to Japan also proposed and called on all parties to implement a "Double Restraint" solution to resolve the situation, in which North Korea would stop nuclear and missile tests in exchange for the US and South Korea stopping military exercises that have been strongly opposed by North Korea and have caused concern for China.

The proposal is not new from Beijing, but the call now seems all the more urgent after the war of words between the US and North Korean leaders was described as more intense than ever.

Also on September 26, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang affirmed that no one would win if war broke out on the Korean Peninsula.

The statement came after North Korea's foreign minister, speaking from New York, said US President Donald Trump had declared war on North Korea and Pyongyang reserved the right to take retaliatory measures.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Lu Kang said China hopes US and North Korean politicians can see that using military measures will never be a viable option.

China also opposes the escalation in the war of words between the two countries.

Regarding the tension between the US and North Korea, Russia's RIA news agency quoted Mr. Mikhail Ulyanov - head of the Department of Arms Control and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction of the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasizing that the conflict on the Korean peninsula would cause "terrible consequences" and the Russian Foreign Ministry is making efforts "behind the scenes" to seek a political solution to the North Korean crisis.

He also declared that the US approach to North Korea was reaching a "dead end" and that sanctions tools against Pyongyang had almost been exhausted.
