Kyodo reported that on September 3 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin met and discussed historical and economic issues.
The talks took place after the two leaders attended a military parade marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Beijing earlier in the day.
Xi Jinping said that while “some people in the world deny the history of World War II and seek to change it from the outside,” China and Russia have always been united on the issue, implicitly referring to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is often accused by Beijing of distorting Tokyo’s role in the war.
For his part, Mr. Putin emphasized his desire to increase trade with Beijing as well as “deepen the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.”
After the meeting, the two leaders signed more than 20 agreements related to many fields such as energy, trade and people-to-people exchange./.
