China is still under scrutiny by the US regarding its intellectual property rights.
According to China News Network on May 2nd, after the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) released its “2013 Special 301 Report,” which continued to list China as a country requiring special monitoring regarding intellectual property rights, the head of the Legal Treaties Department of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed regret that the U.S. had included China on this list for the ninth consecutive year.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing on May 2nd, the aforementioned official emphasized that the Chinese government attaches great importance to protecting intellectual property rights, and that in terms of legislation and enforcement, intellectual property rights have made leaps and bounds.

According to this official, in recent years, the Chinese government has implemented a series of enforcement measures regarding intellectual property rights. In 2011, the Chinese government established a leading group to crack down on intellectual property infringement and the production and consumption of counterfeit and substandard goods, strengthening leadership and coordination in the protection of intellectual property rights.
The official asserted that Beijing has taken another step in perfecting the long-standing mechanism for protecting intellectual property rights.
The official also stated that China believes protecting intellectual property rights is an international issue requiring the joint efforts of the international community. China hopes to strengthen cooperation with countries and regions, including the United States, to jointly promote the improvement of intellectual property protection worldwide.
