IS command center in Diyala completely wiped out
Pro-government gunmen from the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have completely destroyed the command center of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Diyala province, eastern Iraq.
On October 20, Iraqi Diyala Province Police Commander Faisal al-Abadi said that pro-government gunmen from the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) had completely destroyed the command center of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Diyala Province, eastern Iraq.
PMU is a political-military force that has made many contributions to the fight against IS in Iraq.
Speaking to Baghdad Today news agency, Mr. Abadi stated: "IS has suffered major defeats this year and most of its commanders, who were members of the so-called War Council, have been eliminated in military operations in Diyala."
“The IS War Council has been completely eliminated in this province,” Mr. Abadi affirmed.
Less than a week ago, Abu Zahi - one of the leading members of IS - and four other terrorists were killed in a raid on the morning of October 16 in Iraq's Diyala province, northeast of the capital Baghdad.
The raid was carried out by the PMU, an Iran-backed force in Iraq.
The Iraqi government declared victory over IS in December 2017 after driving IS militants out of their last strongholds along the border with Syria. However, IS militants have recently increased violent attacks and kidnappings in Iraq./.
